Obituary for Warren O. Hilton
WARREN O. HILTON, 83, of Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, IL died Friday, October 16, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, IA. Warren was born on November 18, 1925 in Gary, IN to Donald W. and Esther E. (Nyland) Hilton. He was educated in the Gary, IN grade schools and graduated from Lew Wallace High School in 1944. Following Warren"s enlistment with the Navy in which he served during WWII, he graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Business. He married June I. Haas on September 3, 1949 in Hebron, IN. She preceded him in death on December 16, 2007. In 1950, following graduation, Warren moved to Schenectady, NY and worked for the General Electric Training program. Then, in 1952, Warren and his family moved to Morrison, IL where he continued to work for General Electric as a manager of information systems and personnel accounting, retiring in 1987. He was an active member of the Morrison United Methodist Church where he was chairman of finance, leader of the building committee in the 1970"s and later the leader of the parking lot committee. Warren was a member of the Morrison VFW and Morrison American Legion Post #328, as well as a member of other organizations including the Tin Can Sailors Group, Navy League, National WWII Memorial, U.S. Naval Institute and Navy Memorial Foundation. He started the USS Jeffers Reunion Group in 1984, which is a group of sailors from the USS Jeffers DD621/DMS27 who meet annually. At Indiana University, Warren was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi and Beta Gamma Sigma which is an honorary Fraternity for Business as well as a member of the Indiana University Alumni Association. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling. Survivors include two daughters, Barb (Dave) Carlson of Keokuk, IA and Bev (Mike) Broach of Boulder, CO; one son, Ron Hilton of Denver, CO; three grandchildren, Ashley (fianc" Jason Benson) Broach, Jeffrey Hilton and Rebecca Hilton; one great grandson, Michael Hilton; one cousin, Walter Behn and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June; one sister, Juanita Guthrie; and one brother, George Hilton.
