Obituary for Ruth L. Vogel
RUTH L. VOGEL, 89, of Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehab. Ruth was born May 9, 1925, in Fulton, IL to Henry and Stella (Temple) Hoogheem. She was educated in the Fulton Christian Grade School and the Fulton Public Grade School. She was a 1943 graduate of Fulton High School. On November 8, 1943 she married Marion J. "Bud" Vogel in Spartanburg, SC. He died on May 28, 1999. Ruth was employed as a clerk in several retail stores in the Fulton and Clinton area. She also worked in the business office at the former Schick Hospital in Clinton. Ruth primarily was a homemaker, devoted to raising her children and grandchildren. Ruth was a member of the former Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton, where she was active in the Hanna Mission Society. She was currently a member of the Fulton Presbyterian Church. She volunteered as a pink lady at Mercy Hospital and also for Hospice in the Fulton area. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and following their interest and events. She loved gardening and especially enjoyed writing personal cards and notes to friends and family. Survivors include three sons, David J. (Mary) Vogel of Fulton, Richard P. "Dick" (Karen) Vogel of Fulton, and Donald B. (Melissa) Vogel of Sterling, IL; seven grandchildren, Christine (Mark) Schrader, Thomas (Jennifer) Vogel, Erin (Brian) Rinkevich, Kelly (Mike Mills) Vogel, Jessica L. Vogel, Henry J. "Hank" Vogel, and Makinzie R. Vogel; five great grandchildren, Jenna and Andrew Schrader, Mary, Eva and Willem Vogel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion "Bud; four sisters, Annabelle Leonard, Blanche Bronkema, Nola Venhuizen and Mae Hammond; one brother, Paul Hoogheem.
