Obituary for Robert J. Venema
ROBERT J. VENEMA, 73, of 9464 Spring Valley Road, Fulton, IL, died Monday, June 11, 2007 at his home. Bob was born August 7, 1933 in Newton Township, IL, to George J. and Annie (Huizenga) Venema. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a Fulton High School graduate. He married Ruth M. Bielema on August 28, 1953 in Fulton. Bob was engaged in farming in the rural Fulton area. He then was employed as an electrician in Morrison and later owned and operated Fulton Electric and Refrigeration in Fulton. Following that, he was employed by Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA as assistant director of maintenance and most recently, he worked for Superwash in Fulton. Bob was a member of Spring Valley Reformed Church in Fulton, where he was serving as an elder and had served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sound system technician. He had served on the executive committee as an elder for Classis of Illinois-Reformed Church in America. He was well known as a vocalist for many different events, including weddings and funerals. He was Past President and member of the Fulton High School and Riverbend School boards. He was also charter member of the Board of Directors of the former Health Services Employees Credit Union in Clinton. He enjoyed being out of doors and cutting and splitting firewood. He also truly enjoyed the fellowship of family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; his stepfather, Renzie Buikema of Morrison; three sons, Randy (Linda) Venema of Fulton; Jeff (Bobbie) Venema of Sterling, IL; and Mike (Paula) Venema of Bettendorf, IA; eight grandchildren, Shelly (Mrs. Chris) Foley, Brian (Dori) Venema, Nathan Venema, Brad Venema, Katie Venema, Whitney Venema, Tyson Venema, and Alex Venema; four step grandchildren, Amanda Helm, Shayna Guinn, Logan and Dalton Manley; three great grandchildren, Jillian Venema, Evan Foley, and Cole Venema; seven step great grandchildren, Brianne, Izayah and Jaykob Wood; Jaden, Landen, and Tori Guinn; and Makayla Pritchard; two sisters, Mildred "Pinky" (Mrs. Vernon) Van Dyke of Rock Falls, IL and Mary Jean (Mrs. Leroy) Wiersema of Sterling, IL; four step sisters, Esther (Mrs. Gerald) Hamstra of Morrison, IL, Janice (Mrs. Tommy) Patten of Morrison, IL Shirley (Mrs. Doug) Borop of Rockford, IL and Beth (Mrs. Steve) Wroble of Morrison, IL; two brothers, Donald "Doc" (Corliss) Venema of Morrison and Calvin (Paula) Venema of Geneseo, IL; one step brother, Allen (Hope) Buikema of Morrison, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
