Obituary for Richard A. Minssen

RICHARD A. MINSSEN, 79, of Prophetstown, IL, forgot to wake up on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL.


A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 13, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown, IL, with a visitation from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown. Pastor Chelsey Weech, pastor of First Lutheran Church, will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following services. Interment will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Sterling, IL. A memorial to First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown has been established by the family.


Richard was born October 31, 1943, in Morrison, IL, to Arthur C. and Virginia (Rick) Minssen. He was educated in rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School. Richard married Carole A. Renken on May 16, 1965, in Manchester, IA. She passed away on September 1, 2021. Richard farmed for 50 years on MBS Farms in Prophetstown, IL, he also worked as a seed rep for Wyffels Seed Company for 30 years. Richard was a member of Whiteside County Pork Producers and First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown. Richard enjoyed going on cruises with his wife Carole and many friends. They went on nine cruises including Alaska and the Caribbean. Richard loved his family and cherished the time he spent as “Papa” with his grandchildren.


Survivors include his son, Dave (Heather) Minssen of Prophetstown; four grandchildren: Grant, Sydney, Jackson, and Mason Minssen; one sister, Diane Jones of Prophetstown; two nieces: Jodi (Paul) Farral of Prophetstown and Julie (Tony) Metzger of Tipton, IA; nephew, Bill (Amy) Jones of Prophetstown; close family friend, Steve Jeffries of Leeds, England.


He was preceded in death by his parents; Wife, Carole; Brother, John Minssen; Brother-in-law, Richard Jones.
