Obituary for Rachel E. Young
RACHEL E. YOUNG, 94, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at the nursing home. Rachel was born December 15, 1912 in Fenton, IL, to Ray and Margaret (Hawk) Ewers. She was educated in the Coburn grade school of rural Whiteside County. She was a graduate from Erie High School in Erie, IL and Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA. Rachel married Loren S. Young on August 27, 1938 in Fenton, IL. He died May 13, 1992. She taught home economics at the Erie High School, prior to World War II, and during the war, she taught at the Coburn School, a county one room school. She was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church, the church"s United Methodist Women and had served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Monday Evening Club and was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Jane Dowling of Dunlap, IL; two grandsons, Mike (Lisa) Dowling of Charlotte, NC and Matt (Holly) Dowling of Greenville, SC; four great grandchildren, Delaney, Riley, and Trey Dowling and Ansley Dowling. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Loren.
