Obituary for Phyllis G. Cole
Phyllis Waggoner Cole (Mrs. E.M. Bud Cole), a resident of Morrison, IL for sixty-three years, died on May 29th, 2008 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL. She was born in Hamilton, Illinois, Nov. 21, 1909 to the Rev. Harvey Garland Waggoner and Jennie (Daisy) Corpe Waggoner. When Phyllis was 12 years old, her father (who was instrumental in the building of the First Christian Church of Dixon, IL.) died - leaving a wife and six children. A month after her fathers death, the family moved to Eureka and Phyllis graduated from Eureka College in the midst of the Depression. She taught high school French and Latin in Bethany, IL until she married on Aug. 10, 1935 and they moved to Princeton, IL. Phyllis was a teacher in Morrison until her retirement and was also a Girl Scout leader, director of Girl Scout Camps, Sunday School teacher and an active member of P.E.O. for over 60 years. Her husband had been a teacher and coach for many years, and was the superintendent of the Morrison School District until 1971 when he retired. Bud died in 1977, just three years after their daughter, Carolyn Cole Banks. Phyllis also reared her granddaughter, Lara Kaage, who is an art instructor in Chicago, IL. Kevin Cole Banks, her grandson, his wife and great-grandson, Evin, live in Addison, Il. Mrs. Coles memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Morrison on June 2nd at 10:30 am. A Visitation will be held on June 1st at the church [100 East Lincolnway Road, Morrison, IL.,] from 5-7:00 pm. Memorials in her honor may be made there.
