Obituary for Philip Gordon Haendler
Philip Gordon Haendler, 86, of Morrison, died Monday, May 31, 2010, at Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL. Phil was born Feb. 13, 1924 in Erie, PA, the son of Howard and Theresa (Lehr) Haendler. He was united in marriage to Anna Belle Claybaugh on May 11, 1944 in El Centro, CA. Phil served in the US Marine Air Corps from 1943"1946. Phil was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and golfing. Phil was employed at General Electric, retiring after 38 years. After his retirement, he and Ann enjoyed their winter months on Tierra Verde Island, FL for 23 years. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Ann of 66 years, his two daughters, Carol (Dave) Poncez of Overland Park, KS and Deb (Roger) VanDerLeest of Morrison, IL and his six grandchildren, Tracy (Bob) Edler of Olatha, KS; Heather (Sean) Shire of Lawrence, KS; Shannon (Aaron) Huizenga of Morrison, IL; Dan (Aris) VanDerLeest of Lakewood, CO; Amy Poncez of Portland, OR; and Kiley VanDerLeest of Morrison, IL and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
FUNERAL SERVICES: It was Phil"s wishes to be cremated with no visitation or funeral service. A special family service has been planned.
