Obituary for Marlene Holmberg
MARLENE HOLMBERG, 84, of Prophetstown, IL, died Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, IL.Marlene was born August 2, 1932, in Provo, UT, to John D. and Zelda W. (Henderson) Hansen. She was a graduate of Pocatello High School in Pocatello, ID and received a bachelor of elementary education degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. She married Walter E. Wally Holmberg, Jr. on August 13, 1951, in Pocatello, ID. Marlene was a teacher in the Prophetstown and Fulton Riverbend School Districts retiring in 1990. She was a former member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Prophetstown and a current member of Prophetstown United Methodist Church. She was also a longtime member of Prophet Hills Country Club. Marlene was an active volunteer in the community and enjoyed attending her childrens and grandchildrens school events. She also enjoyed golfing, tennis, gardening, sewing, reading, boating, and playing bridge with her friends.Survivors include her husband, Wally; one daughter, Cheri (Bruce) Rhodes of Lake Ozark, MO; three sons, Scott Holmberg of Lyndon, IL; Walter E. Holmberg III of Prophetstown, IL; and Gene (Linda) Holmberg of Bettendorf, IA; five grandchildren, Katelyn Rhodes, Kyle Rhodes, Kim (Chapman) Arter, Shannon Holmberg and Erika Holmberg; four great-grandchildren, Lilly Drake, Xander Whitton, Ethan Arter, and Maxwell Arter; one sister, Connie (Richard) Thomsen of Salt Lake City, UT and one sister-in-law, Claryce Holmberg of Lake Carroll, IL.She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Norval Hansen.
