Obituary for Marie A. Francis
MARIE A. FRANCIS, 98, of Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown, IL, formerly of Lyndon, IL, died Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at the Center. Marie was born April 9, 1918, in Fulton, IL, to Claus and Tessie (Aggen) Wierenga. She was educated in the rural Minnesota and Morrison, IL grade schools. She married Hubert L. Francis on February 22, 1938, in Clinton, IA. He died January 26, 2006. Marie was first employed by a pastor of Second Reformed Church in Fulton and later worked as a waitress at the former Martin Hotel Restaurant in Fulton. She then farmed along with her late husband in the rural Lyndon, IL area. She also managed the Francis Egg Farm. Marie was a member of the former Lyndon United Methodist in Lyndon and current member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Prophetstown. Marie enjoyed quilt making, embroidery, needlework, and flower gardening. Survivors include Linda (Larry) Vos of Prophetstown, IL; one son, Jerry (Debra) Francis of Lyndon, IL; one daughter-in-law, Florence Francis of Prophetstown, IL; ten grandchildren, Kari (Matt) Smith, Teri (Randy) Rosenow, Ronald Francis, Caron (John) Wilson, Jolyn (Brian) Cox, Courtney Bender and fianc" Tim Hanson, Lena (Bill) Wilson, Aurelie Francis and fianc" Pat Gerlach, Lisa (Jerry) Stuart and Lori (Dan) Davis; twenty-four great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Bernice Buck of Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert; two sons, Arman and Ronald Francis; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Francis; two sisters, Marjorie Bielema and Loretta Harter; two brothers, Carl and Arlen "Bub" Wierenga.
