Obituary for Marian Pat Houzenga
MARIAN I. "PAT" HOUZENGA, 84, of 13689 Prairie Center Road, Morrison, IL, died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, IL. Pat was born September 28, 1925 in Morrison, IL, to William and Winnie (VanDyke) Rose. She was educated in the Morrison grade schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School. She married Gerald "Red" Houzenga on February 26, 1947 in Morrison. Pat was employed by the former Wilkens Grocery Store in Morrison and later was employed as a deputy in the Whiteside County Treasurer"s Office. She was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison. Pat enjoyed cross stitching, bowling, cooking, the computer, and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Red; two daughters, Linda (Tom) Ekle of Waterman, IL and Jane (Eric) Thompson of Melvin, IL; one son, Bruce (Sandra) Houzenga of Bettendorf, IA; twelve grandchildren, Brian (Carol) Duncan, Jennifer (Chris) Akers, Lincoln (Kimberly) Ekle, Thad (Jai) Ekle, Hanneke (Jim) Raymond, Peter (Betsy) Ekle, Jason (Carrie) Ekle, Stephen Ekle, Adam (Nicole) Thompson, Alicia Thompson, Sara (Craig) Otta, and Aaron (Sarah) Houzenga; sixteen great grandchildren; and one brother, Alvin (Margaret) Rose of Peoria, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Wilma Gibler; and three brothers, Harry, Herman, and Cornelius Rose.
