Obituary for Kenneth E. Balk
KENNETH E. BALK, 84, of Fulton, IL, died Friday, July 13, 2018, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA.
The funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Ken Renkes officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, July 16, 2018, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery. A memorial has been established by the family.
Ken was born April 1, 1934, in Fulton, IL, to Jake C. and Florence (Wiebenga) Balk. He was educated in the Fulton Christian Grade School and attended Fulton High School. Ken was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Audrey J. Tichler on June 1, 1956, in Morrison, IL. Ken was employed as a carman for the former Chicago and Northwestern Railway for 44 years. He was local chairman and Secretary Treasurer for the Joint Protective Board for the Chicago and Northwestern Railway. Ken was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton and served as a deacon. He enjoyed fishing, restoring antiques, gardening, and storytelling.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey; two daughters, Brenda (Troy) Bousman and Carla (Jeff) Zajicek both of Fulton, IL; one son, Jim (Jill) Balk of Garrison, IA; five grandchildren, Nathan (fiancée Stephanie Brown) Traver, Amanda (Andrew) Cramer, Joseph and Andrew Zajicek, and James Balk; two great-grandchildren, Adalynn and Alexander Cramer; and one sister, Bonnie Simon of Fulton, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Stephanie Balk; one sister, Roberta Tichler; and one brother, Calvin Balk in infancy.
