Obituary for Juanita L. Smith
JUANITA L. SMITH, 93, of Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown, IL, died Friday, October 21, 2016, peacefully, surrounded by family at the center.Juanita was born July 1, 1923, in Prophetstown, IL, to George and Fannie Mae (Plumley) McNamara. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County Grade Schools and graduated from Prophetstown High School. She married Ryland E. Smith on June 7, 1941, in Prophetstown. He died July 22, 1995. She was employed by CGH Hospital in Sterling, IL. Juanita was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America Chapter 1570 of Thomas, IL and a member of the Prophetstown Historical Society. She started the cemetery walk celebration in Prophetstown. She was also a member of the Geneseo Horse Trail Riders Club. Juanita and her sister, June, loved to travel together, especially with the Four Season Group.Survivors include nieces and nephews including two nephews, Kevin (Donna) Powell and Kirk Powell both of Annawan, IL; many great nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Ryland; two sisters, June Powell and Eloise Stewart; two brothers-in-law, Robert Powell and Everett Stewart.
