Obituary for John W. Banks
JOHN W. "BILL" BANKS, 78, of 2002 19th Avenue, Sterling, IL, formerly of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, IL. Bill was born August 14, 1928 in Gothenburg, NE, to David E. and Minnie V. (Moore) Banks. He was a graduate of Farnam High School in Farnam, NE. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Barbara L. Alber on December 17, 1953 in Sterling, IL. Bill was first employed by the Northwestern Steel & Wire Company in Sterling, IL and then by R B & W in Rock Falls, IL. He then worked as custodian at the Morrison Southside Grade School and raised registered Angus cattle in rural Morrison. Most recently, he was employed by the United States Postal Service at the Morrison Post Office, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling, IL; the American Legion-Morrison Post #328 and Morrison VFW Post #8281. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Bethany (Dr. John) Lorenz of Evansville, IN; two sons, Michael (Kathy) Banks of Sterling, IL and Jason (Lori) Banks of Garden Prairie, IL; four grandchildren, Tracy (Mrs. Ian) Geiger, Gregory Banks, Chelsey Banks, and Paul Joseph Lorenz; and one sister, Mrs. Phyllis Thornton of Clarion, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Donna Bottita.
