Obituary for John R. Wiersema
JOHN R. WIERSEMA, 82, of Fulton, IL died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at his home. John was born July 24, 1930 in Fulton, IL to John H. "Jack" and Katherine (Haan) Wiersema. He was educated in the Otter Bluff grade school in rural Fulton, IL and attended Fulton High School. John married Beatrice B. Van Houten on November 20, 1952 in Fulton, IL. John, along with his wife, Beatrice, farmed in the Garden Plain area for 17 years. They moved to Fulton in 1971, where John worked for local electricians in Fulton and Morrison. He also worked for DuPont in Clinton, IA. John worked as a journeyman for the IBEW Local #145, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton and the IBEW Local #145. John enjoyed woodworking, gave away many of his projects, and made all the plaques for the Easter Seals Run in Clinton, IA. John was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gardening, and feeding the local birds. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice; two daughters, Marcia (Bill) Thorpe of Rapid City, IL and Gaye (Tommy) Littlejohn of Fulton, IL; two sons, Robert (Gail) Wiersema of Albany, IL and David (Susan) Wiersema of Fulton, IL; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; three sisters, Katherine (Leon) Groh of Fulton, IL, Delores (Don) Goodridge of Fulton, IL, and Patsy (Gary) Bechtel of Morrison, IL; three brothers, Kenneth Wiersema of Fulton, IL, Vernon (Donna) Wiersema of Houston, TX, and Steven (Gloria) Wiersema of Colorado Springs, CO; and special friends, Ken (Janice) Ottens of Fulton, IL. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Julie Ann Wiersema; one grandson, Joseph Littlejohn; and four brothers, Henry, Thomas, Donald, and Edwin Wiersema.
