Obituary for Janet Petersen
JANET PETERSEN, 94, of Fulton, IL died Monday, April 9, 2012 at her home. Janet was born November 8, 1917 in East Clinton, IL to John and Katie (Stuit) Koenes. She was educated in the East Clinton Grade Schools and graduated from Fulton High School in 1935. She married Leonard Petersen on January 28, 1942 in Elkton, Maryland. He died August 13, 1969. Janet farmed with her husband in the rural Fulton area until 1969. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Fulton, where she participated in the Helping Hand Society. She avidly participated in Aquacise at the YWCA in Clinton, IA. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and watching baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Ruiz of Bettendorf, IA; three sons, Allen Petersen of Fulton, IL; Larry (Yasko) Petersen of Fulton, IL; and Robert Petersen of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Bridget (Dan) Mitchell, Renee (Rick) Mason, Rita (Mike) Martin, Troy (Kelly) Petersen, and Jana Michels; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; and two brothers, Clarence and Alvin Koenes.
