Obituary for Henry Heinie Meurs
HENRY HEINIE MEURS, 90, of Mercy Living Center North, Clinton, IA formerly of Fulton, IL, died Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the Mercy Living Center North, Clinton, IA.Heinie was born July 11, 1920 in Prairie View, Kansas, to Elmer and Nellie (Verhoef) Meurs. Heinie was educated in the Iowa Union Grade School of Phillips County, Kansas. He married Harriett J. DeVries on February 10, 1941, in Clinton, IA. She died on January 18, 2001. Heinie was first engaged in farming in the rural Lyndon/Prophetstown area. He later worked as an auto mechanic and owned and operated the former DX Gas Station " Fulton, IL. He then became a certified Water and Waste Water Operator in Illinois and was employed by the City of Fulton, IL and the Village of Thomson, IL. Heinie was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, IL and served as Deacon, Elder, and Catechism and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Fulton Fire Department for 23 years, served as Assistant Fire Chief and President of the Blackhawk Fire Protection District. Heinie and his wife Harriett, also served as Miss Flame chaperones for many years. Heinie was also a member of the board of directors of the Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL. Survivors include two daughters, Norma (Leon) Haan of Morrison, IL and Joan Wiebenga of Fulton, IL; nine grandchildren, Sonja (Ted) Swanson, Rhonda (Larry) Ridenour; Brian (Mary) Oostenryk, Rodney (Shelia) Oostenryk, Jason (Carmen) Oostenryk, Aaron (Karen) Oostenryk; Dalbert (Bette) Wiebenga, Darla Wiebenga, Dean (Jennifer) Wiebenga; twenty-three great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one brother, Wayne (Lois) Meurs of Cannon City, CO.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Harriett; one sister, Geneva Stuart; four brothers, John, Edward, Clarence and Raymond Meurs.
