Obituaries
Harriet was born February 28, 1923 in Argo Fay, IL to Reuben and Hazel (Bennett) Green. She was educated in the Fulton grade schools and was a graduate of Fulton High School. She attended DeKalb Teachers College in DeKalb, IL. Harriet married Claus W. Schaver on December 31, 1941 in Fulton, IL. He died May 3, 1996. She was engaged in farming with her late husband, in the rural Newton and Garden Plain Township areas. She also was self-employed doing house cleaning and custodial work in private homes and for businesses. Following retirement in 1996, she taught sewing and worked as seamstress from her home. She was a member of Newton Zion Reformed Church in rural Erie, IL and a member of the church's Mission Circle, Ladies Aid Society, PALS Club, and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Fulton Historical Society and The Heritage Museum in Albany, IL. She had served as a 4-H leader for 26 years. She was a past board member of the Board of Directors of the Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, IL and a member of the Serger Club of Clinton, IA. She was the 1979 Albany Lions Club Citizen of the Year. Her hobbies included sewing and collecting teddy bears.
Survivors include two daughters, Willa Kay (Mrs. George) Brown of Grand Rapids, MI and Ruby Dell (Mrs. James) Feeley of Glendale Heights, IL; one son, Calvin William (Nancy) Schaver of Brodhead, WI; twelve grandchildren, Steve (Sharon) Brown, Douglas Brown, Jeffrey Brown, Chonda (Mrs. Kevin) Zeyen, David Smith, Brian (Trinity Goc) Feeley, Bradley Schaver, Teresa (Mrs. Rick) Adams, Brian (Wendy) Schaver, Tracey (Mrs. Leroy) Baker, Tina Schaver, and Teri Schaver; eleven great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Bielema and Mrs. Ella Smith both of Fulton, IL and Mrs. Evelyn Houzenga of Morrison; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Schaver of Fulton, Mrs. Dorothy Green of Thomson, IL, Mrs. Marguerite Green of Lanark, IL, Mrs. Ann Green-Foreman of Morrison, IL and a brother-in-law, Peter Schaver of Morrison.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Sarah Brown in infancy; three sisters, Nora May Merrill, Doris Jensen, and Irma Green in infancy; three brothers, William Green, Russel Green, and Charles Green.
