Obituary for George L. Blackert
GEORGE L. BLACKERT JR., 87, of Prophetstown, IL, passed away in his home Thursday, December 27, 2018, surrounded by family.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown, with Rev Mark Meyers of Prophetstown United Methodist Church officiating. A memorial visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 4th, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. A memorial to Pat’s Table of Prophetstown United Methodist Church has been established.

George was born November 10, 1931 in Oshkosh, WI, to George LeRoy and Mabel (Shere) Blackert Sr. He was educated in the Yorktown Grade School in rural Whiteside County, and was a graduate of Prophetstown High School. He married Terry L. Denison on October 3, 1949 in Prophetstown. She passed away on March 17, 2017. George was employed for 30 years as a construction foreman by Propheter Construction in Sterling, IL, and was a member of the Carpenters’ Union Local #695. He was a member of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church and served as a Methodist Youth Fellowship Leader. He also served as a Prophetstown alderman for two terms. George was a private pilot and enjoyed flying, wood working, camping, boating, dancing and playing cards.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Rod (Kim) Walker of Hooppole, IL, Rhonda Walker-Reed of Prophetstown, IL and Thomas (Jennifer) Hall of Dixon, IL; five great grandchildren, Whitney and Samantha Walker, Ashley (Kalib) Reed-Calter, Cody Reed and Cameron Hall; one great great grandchild, Soran Ozawa; one brother, Larry (Connie) Blackert of Prophetstown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Terry; two sons, Thomas Hall Sr. and John L. Hall; two sisters, Marjorie Hinterthuer and Donna Blackert; one brother, Keith Blackert.
