Obituary for Gary D. Bartels
GARY D. BARTELS, 68, of 480 Woodland Drive, Clinton, IA, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at his home. Gary was born December 1, 1941 in Clinton, IA, to John L. and Bernice (Hosette) Bartels. He was a 1960 graduate of Clinton High School. Gary married Gretchen D. Balk-Berryman on November 20, 1988 in Clinton, IA. He was employed as a locomotive engineer for the former Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 30 years. Gary was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Church of the Open Door in Clinton. Gary"s immense love and compassion for his dogs, cats, and birds was surpassed only by his love for the Lord. Survivors include his wife, Gretchen; three sons, Dan (Tucker Spirito) Ambrisco of West Dundee, IL; Kevin (Kari) Bartels and Eric Bartels both of Bellevue, WA; one daughter, Danielle (Adam) Garey of Normal, IL; eleven grandchildren, Dan Jr. and Toni Ambrisco; Kelsi and Kollin Bartels; Brockton, Baylee, and Brayden Bartels; Isaac, Jeremy, Esten, and Adrienne Garey; one sister, Shirley (Bob) Greathouse of Akron, OH; and one brother, Richard (Carla) Bartels of Clinton, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Joyce Schaeffer and Sharon Haggard; and one brother in infancy.
