Obituary for Elmer J. Vogel
ELMER J. VOGEL, 80, of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at his home in Fulton, IL. Elmer was born September 9, 1933 in Clinton, IA, to Jacob and Ann (DeWeerdt) Vogel. He was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and attended Fulton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On May 26, 1989, he married Marian Dykstra-Meinema in Clinton. Elmer was employed as a car man on the former Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 44 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton, and also the American Legion Post #402 in Fulton. He served as President of the Fulton Recreation Association and was a Little League coach. Elmer was an avid sports fan and followed the Illini, Cubs, Bears and Fulton Steamers. Survivors include his wife, Marian; one son, Michael Vogel of Marion, IA; one step-daughter, Terri (Todd) Robbe of Savanna, IL; one step-son, Scott (Janelle) Meinema of Lafayette, IN; two grandchildren, Jamie and Mason Vogel; five step-grandchildren, Chad Wallis, Kyle, Matthew, Kayla, and Lauren Meinema. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jeffrey Vogel.
