Obituary for Donald E. Ottens
DONALD E. OTTENS, 79, of Chadwick, IL, died Thursday, May 10, 2018, in Wichita, KS.
The funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home preceded by a visitation from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Rev. Mary Bohall, pastor of Fairhaven United Methodist Church in Chadwick, IL, will officiate. Interment will be at Fairhaven Cemetery in Chadwick, IL. Memorials to Children’s Therapy Center of the Quad Cities and Carroll County Livestock Feeders Association Scholarship have been established.
Don was born December 30, 1938, in Morrison, IL, to Charles and Everdena (Hook) Ottens. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and attended Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. Don served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He married Glenda F. Groharing on September 15, 1961, in Morrison, IL. Don was engaged in farming in the Chadwick and Morrison areas for 53 years and also was a truck driver for Sewer Equipment Company of America. Don was a member of the Masonic Lodge #867 AF & AM in Chadwick, IL and a member of Carroll County Livestock Feeders Association. He enjoyed bowling and collecting wrenches and was a member of the Missouri Valley Wrench Club.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda; one daughter, Melissa Ottens of Oconomowoc, WI; one son, Michael A. Ottens of Sterling, IL; five grandchildren, Amanda (Cody) Meyer, Cecilia Ottens, Kyle Ottens, Derrick Rendon, and Austin Rendon; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Landrie Meyer; three brothers, Arlyn Ottens, Alan (Chris) Ottens and Dennis (Sue) Ottens all of Morrison, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Cheryl Sedig.
