CALVIN S. WING, 84, of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Rock River Hospice Home in Sterling, IL.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Randy Osborn of Living Bread Fellowship in Sterling, IL. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Monday, January 30th, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. A memorial has been established.
Calvin was born November 13, 1938, in Maquoketa, IA, to Edwin Slater and Elda Anna (Huebbe) Wing. He was educated in the rural Jackson County Iowa grade schools and he attended Elwood High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On February 8, 1958 he married Doy Ann Abell in Springfield, TN. She died April 27, 2003. He then married Sue C. (Planthaber) Carter on September 25, 2004 in Sterling, IL. Cal was employed at Lord Baltimore Press in Clinton, IA; the former Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in Sterling, IL and most recently as a heavy equipment operator and laborer for various construction companies. Cal was a member of Living Bread Church in Sterling, IL; the VFW in Uniontown, KY; the Loyal Order of Moose in Henderson, KY and the International Brotherhood of Laborers Local #561 in Evansville, IN. Cal enjoyed being outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, golf and play fast pitch softball. He was an avid New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers fan.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; four daughters, Janice K. Wing of Smith Mill, KY, Wanda L. (William) Jenkins of Robards, KY, Katherine E. (Bub) Watson, of Smith Mill, KY, and Linda S. Wing of Smith Mill, KY; two sons, Mickey R. (Laura) Wing of Booneville, IN and Allen G. (Angela) Wing of Waverly, KY; one step-daughter, Carol (Benny) Melton of Comer, GA; two step sons, Steve Carter of Danielsville, GA, Alan (Anna) Carter of Hamilton, MT; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; step grand and great grandchildren; one sister, Linda K. Flagel of Preston, IA.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann; one daughter, Norma M. Riggs; one son, Calvin S. Wing II; one grandson, Jeffrey Lee Mierch; five sisters, Delores Sikkema, Laura Davis, Velma Hartwick, Carol McBroom and Susan Claussen; eight brothers, Richard Wing, Roy Wing, Wilfred Huebee, Edward Wing, Dean Wing, Dwaine Wing, Darrell Wing and Larry Wing.
