Obituary for Betty Tervelt
ELIZABETH R. BETTY TERVELT, 90, of 10211 N. Main Street, Fenton, IL, died Thursday, December 24, 2009 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, IL.Betty was born August 21, 1919 in Morrison, IL, to Hubert and Anna (Pessman) Vandermyde. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a graduate of Rockford Beauty School. She married Kenneth G. Tervelt on November 24, 1947 in Morrison. He died May 16, 2008. Betty was a beautician operating in her home in Fenton for many years. She also was employed as a waitress at the former Ice Box Restaurant in Morrison and most recently the VFW in Morrison for many years. Most of all she enjoyed being a homemaker. Betty was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison and the church"s Ladies Aid Society. She also served as an election judge for Fenton Township. Betty enjoyed baking and the tradition of baking pies for family and friends who would come to visit. She was an avid collector of all types of antiques. Betty was acknowledged as the oldest entrant in the 2009 Whiteside County Fair where she brought canned fruits, vegetables, pies, breads, cookies and collectables of all kinds. Betty greatly enjoyed traveling, along with her late husband, to Hawaii and Wisconsin. She loved life and her children.Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Tervelt-Shay of Sterling, IL; one son, Warren Tervelt of Sterling, IL; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; four brothers, James, Vernon "Bill" and John Vandermyde and one in infancy.
