Obituary for Bernice R. Janssen
BERNICE R. JANSSEN, 86, of 20192 Moline Road, Lyndon, IL, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Hospice of Charleston Inpatient Unit in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Bernice was born June 8, 1925 in McAllen, TX to Henry and Helen (Jacobsen) Wollesen. She was educated in the Delhi Grade School of rural Whiteside County and was a graduate of Morrison High School in Morrison, IL. Bernice married Lloyd L. Janssen on September 2, 1944 in Morrison. He died July 2, 1978. Bernice was involved in farming, with her husband and later her son, in the Lyndon area for many years. She was an active member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Morrison. She served on many councils, boards, and committees at both the local and synod levels. She was also a longtime Sunday School teacher and member of WELCA, Wednesday quilting group, and Church Women United. Bernice had been representative for state level Livestock Feeders and Pork Producers organizations as wells as Red Meat Connection and Red Meat Council in Whiteside County. She was the recipient of the Elanco Company"s Bellringer award for leadership in pork promotions in the county. She was a lifetime Cubs fan and an enthusiastic supporter of her grandchildren"s activities. She shared her strong sense of family with all. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (Terry) Klocke of St. Louis, MO and Sandy (Howard) Miller of Batavia, IL; two sons, Craig (Marilyn) Janssen of Lyndon, IL and Kevin (Andrea) Janssen of Morrison, IL; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; two sisters, Arlene Pape and Evelyn Oetting; and one brother, Eugene Wollesen.
