Obituary for Bernice Pat Houzenga
BERNICE "PAT" HOUZENGA, 86, of 215 E. 3rd Street, Chadwick, IL, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, IA. Bernice was born May 5, 1925 in Thomson, IL to Wesley and Anna (Hartman) Kness. She was educated in the York Center Grade School and was a graduate of Thomson High School. She married Elmer "Bud" Houzenga on February 15, 1945 in Fulton, IL. He died January 5, 1998. Bernice farmed with her late husband, Elmer, in the Chadwick area from 1945 until retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Spring Valley Reformed Church in Fulton. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include one daughter, Julie Isenhart of Chadwick, IL; one son, Ronald (Judy) Houzenga of Thomson, IL; three grandchildren, Wendy Isenhart, Wesley Isenhart and Jennifer Houzenga; one great granddaughter, Cassidy Isenhart; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Houzenga of Fulton, IL; and a special friend, Vicki Heiser of Mt. Carroll, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; four sisters, Mary McNeil, Helen Geerts, Luella Martin, and Elnora Green; three brothers, Earl Kness, LaVere Kness, and Donald Kness.
