Obituary for Annie Burkholder
ANNIE G. BURKHOLDER, 94, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the nursing home. Annie was born June 10, 1916 in Coleta, IL, to Aeve and Hulda (Schultz) Habben. She was educated in the Franklin Corners School in rural Whiteside County, IL. Annie married Donald L. Burkholder on March 21, 1935 in Sterling, IL. He died August 25, 2003. Annie and Donald farmed in the Coleta area for many years. She worked at General Electric in Morrison for 21 years, retiring in 1976. She then enjoyed being home. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Jordan for over 60 years, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Sewing Circle. Annie became known as "The Popcorn Ball Lady" because she made so many at Christmas for her family, friends and co-workers. Everyone loved Annie"s crunchy, delicious popcorn balls. She was a homemaker and loved gardening and sewing. Survivors include one daughter, Diana (Paul) Greiner of Portage, WI; one son, Dennis (Arlene) Burkholder of Morrison, IL; one daughter-in-law, Yvonne Burkholder of Morrison, IL; eight grandchildren, Dean (Alicia) Burkholder, Debra Graeve, David Burkholder, Daryl (Laurie) Burkholder, Deann (Rodney) VanZuiden, Daniel (Cyndi) Burkholder, Loralee (Craig) Hepler, and Michael (Bobbie) Greiner; three step grandchildren, Cynthia (Jerry) Vanderleest, Dale Smith, and Christine Proud; fifteen great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; one great great grandson, ten step great great grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer Habben and Raymond (Mary) Habben both of Morrison, IL; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 68 years, Donald; one son, Dale Burkholder, five sisters, Margaret Gaffey, Edna Workman, Laura Thielen, Cynthia Ernst, and Alma Johnson; three brothers, Julius, Alfred and Herbert Habben.
