Obituary for Alice I. Amman
ALICE I. AMMAN, 100, of Iowa Masonic Health Facilities, Bettendorf, IA formerly of Fulton, IL, died Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facilities. Alice was born December 9, 1910 in LeClaire, IA to Isaac S. and Irene (Dorrance) Spinsby. She was educated in the Quarry Grade School of rural LeClaire and was a graduate of LeClaire High School. Alice married Lester W. Amman on December 17, 1933 in Rock Island, IL. He died January 2, 1997. Alice was employed with the Fidelity Insurance Company in Fulton as a secretary. She later owned and operated, along with her husband, Amman"s Royal Blue grocery store in Fulton for 36 years. After selling the grocery store, she and Lester managed several apartment buildings in the Quad City area. Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, IA and a former member of the Fulton Presbyterian Church in Fulton, IL. Music was a great joy in her life and she volunteered at several nursing homes, playing the organ and piano. Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca (Allen) Schaver of Jamestown, NC; two sons, Douglas (Jean) Amman of Muncie, IN and Paul (Sue) Amman of Mellen, WI; ten grandchildren, Susan (Terry) Strittmater, Barbara (Dave Gerelus) Schaver, Mark (Jennifer) Amman, Kirk (Lanae) Amman, Jill (Ron) Lafferty, Drew (fianc"e Jamie Rose) Amman, Gwen (Terry) Burns, Joyce (Chuck) Kindt, Clint (Amy) Amman, and Gina (Ryan) Broeniman; nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; twin sons; one grandson, Bret Amman; four sisters, Thelma Pierce, Blanche Boedecker, Ruth Williams, and Pauline Maehr; four brothers, Deforest, John, Courter, and George Spinsby.
