Obituary for Susan "Chris" Schaeffer
SUSAN “CHRIS” SCHAEFFER, 76, of Prophetstown, IL, died Sunday, January 14, 2024, at her home.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Prophetstown United Methodist Church. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial has been established.
Chris was born February 19, 1947, in Milton, IA, to Lial Jesse and Florence Elizabeth (Baldwin) Humphrey. She graduated from Fox Valley High School in 1965. In 1979, she married Wesley G. Nelson, and she later married Roger A. Schaeffer in August 1997 in Prophetstown, IL. Chris dedicated 30 years of her life working for Illini Hospital in Silvis, leaving a lasting impact on those she served. She was an active member of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church and for many years, she contributed her time and talents serving as the church’s secretary. Chris also enjoyed spending time at the casino, finding excitement in the games of chance. Most importantly, she cherished moments spent socializing with friends and loved ones.
Survivors include her husband, Roger; children, Nick (Amanda) Nelson of Sherrard, IL, Joe (Lana) Schaeffer of Charlestown, IN and Mary Harris of Pine, CO; nine grandchildren, Teagan, Payton, and Chloe Sue Nelson, Phil, Seth, Aaron, and Marcus Schaeffer, Abbie Noriega and Hunter Dixon; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Sandy Hainline of Bonaparte, IA.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Michelle in infancy; one son, Jeffrey Alan Schaeffer; two sisters, Shirley Baxter and Joanne Evans.
