Obituary for Clarence M. Huizenga
CLARENCE M. HUIZENGA, 88, of Harbor Crest Home, Fulton, IL, died Monday, September 21, 2015, at Harbor Crest. Clarence was born August 9, 1927, in Fulton, IL, to Fred and Frieda (Geerts) Huizenga. He was educated in the Garden Plain Grade School of rural Whiteside County and was a graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. Clarence served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Kathryn R. Dykstra on October 4, 1951, in Morrison, IL. Clarence was first employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad and was also engaged in farming in the Albany and Garden Plain, IL, areas. Later he was employed by the Fulton Post Office as a letter carrier for 28 years, retiring in 1991. Clarence was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton and the church"s "Young at Heart" Bible Study Group. He also served an an elder. Clarence served as an alderman on the Fulton City Council and was a former member of the Fulton American Legion Post #402. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and tinkering on old tractors and cars. He also enjoyed taking long bus trips, with his wife, throughout the United States and Canada. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; two sons, Steven (Melissa) Huizenga of Fulton, IL and Robert (Kris) Huizenga of East Moline, IL; five grandchildren, Anna Huizenga, Jenny (Scott) Vesely, Alec Huizenga, Dylan Huizenga, and Monica Huizenga; one step grandson, Benjamin Burke; one great-granddaughter, Bryna Vesely; two step great-grandchildren, Brayden and Audrie Burke. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Cora Mae Howard; and his stepmother, Winnie (Vos) Huizenga.
