Obituary for Gerald L. Jerry Welbourne
GERALD L. "JERRY" WELBOURNE, 75, of Prophetstown, IL, died Monday, September 29, 2014, at his home. Jerry was born August 14, 1939, in Kewanee, IL, to Glenn W. and Violet A. (Swanson) Welbourne. He was educated in the Neponset, IL grade schools and was a 1957 graduate of Neponset High School. Jerry served in the United States Army. He married Judith E. Raley on July 3, 1960, in Kewanee, IL. Jerry was employed as a heavy equipment operator out of the Local 150 Union in LaGrange, IL. He was employed by Miller and Dilenbeck in Geneseo, IL, Curnyn Construction Company in Geneseo, IL, and for the Johnson Brothers Corporation, working on the pipeline in the Midwest. Jerry retired in September 2001 and became a volunteer at Happy Tails Animal Shelter, working many long hours to ensure the comfort of needy animals. He loved his family, animals, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Jerry was an avid Chicago Bears fan. Survivors include his wife, Judy; one daughter, Christi (Richard) Shaw of Rock Falls, IL; two grandchildren; three step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Peggy Franks of Erie, IL and Barbara (Robert) Koehler of Woodstock, IL; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs and cats at home. He was preceded in death by his parents; one niece, Cheryl Hill and AL.
