Obituary for Howard Keith Wiersema
HOWARD KEITH WIERSEMA, 60, of Fulton, IL, died Friday, May 31, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA after complications of treatment for Multiple Myeloma. He passed peacefully with his wife and daughters at his bedside. Howard, lovingly known as Howie, was born May 15, 1953, in Savanna, IL, to Howard J. and Grace E. (McCue) Wiersema. He attended Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Brenda M. Teske on July 7, 1983, in Morrison, IL. He had been a professional semi-truck driver since 1999. Prior to driving, he worked at Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 21 years. Howie was a member of the First Reformed Church in Fulton, IL and a member of the American Legion Fulton Post #402. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed taking care of his yard, working on and maintaining his cars. He restored a 1957 Chevy Bel Air and a 1984 Chevy truck. He enjoyed going to car shows and loved to listen to the oldies and classic rock. Howie and his beloved wife, Brenda, were looking forward to celebrating their 30th anniversary this July. He appreciated her home cooked meals, especially pancakes and eggs for breakfast. He also loved his granddaughters and spending time with his friends and family. Howie will be remembered as a great story teller and could make friends with anyone. Survivors include his wife, Brenda; two daughters, Stacy (Eric) Strackbein of Fulton, IL and Amanda (AJ) Champion of Albany, IL; three grandchildren, Allie Strackbein, Ainsley and Hadley Champion; three sisters, Bonnie (Steve) Bailey of Fulton, IL; Susie (Dan) Wagner of Fulton, IL; and Penny (John) Toureene of Mackinaw, IL; one brother, Terry Wiersema of Fulton, IL; his father, Howard J. (Anna) Wiersema of Thomson, IL; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, nephew and great-nephew, aunts and uncles.
