Obituary for Carl B. Rogers Jr.
Carl Bryan Rogers, Jr., son of Carl Bryan Rogers, Sr. and Nevada Toepfer Rogers, formerly of Mount Carroll, IL at the age of 78 departed this life on May 30, 2012, from the Mercy Medical Center of Clinton, IA. He passed peacefully after a 12 year struggle with congestive heart failure. He was born on one blustery fall day in a little country house in the early morning hours of November 19, 1933 in bucolic Woodland Township of Carroll County, IL. He was the third to join this family that eventually included five children, one girl, Ellen Nevada, Maurice LeRoy and after Carl, Bertram Henry Gerald Jerry, and Kent Eugene. Preceding in death were his parents, his sister, Ellen; his wife, Myrna Loy (Little); his sister-in-law, ReNee (Carraway) Rogers, wife of Maurice; his brother-in-law, James Gearing, husband of Patricia (Little). Carl is survived by his three brothers and two sisters-in-law, May, wife of Jerry, and Georgia, wife of Kent; three step sons, Ronald (Ginger) Brown, Timothy Brown and Michael (Kari) Brown; sisters of Myrna, Nancy Haan, Patricia Gearing & Peggy Chase; also a host of relatives and friends. Visitation will be Sunday, June 3, 2012, 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Fulton, Illinois. The funeral service is scheduled for Monday, June 4, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Assembly of God church 500 10th Avenue in Fulton, Illinois. With his family, his early childhood was spent in the Mount Carroll area. His formal schooling began at the one-room Bristol School in rural Thomson, IL. His family had taken up residence on the nearby John Sour farm. The next move was to Fulton, IL in an area known as "Little Oklahoma". He attended the Fulton public school and eventually graduated from the Fulton Community High School in 1952. His college days began at Clinton Junior College and ended at Olivet Nazarene College, Kankakee, IL where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1959. His college career was interrupted with two years of service for his country in the US Army. His military experience included an assignment as a communications technician on Eniwetok Island in the far Pacific. After graduation from Olivet he accepted a position at Fulton High School where he taught physics and math. After a few years as an educator he perceived selling to be more lucrative than teaching. He spent most of his career selling Wear-Ever and CutCo. Eventually he became a very successful salesman for Wildwood Farms of Fulton and on the side began maintaining swimming pools. For a short time he was married to Kathy McGuire of Clinton, IA. He eventually married his childhood sweetheart, Myrna Little, and inherited Myrna"s three small boys from her prior marriage to Charles Brown of Morrison, IL. Carl and Myrna raised the boys while living in Rock Falls. Music was an important component of his life. He achieved top honors on his baritone horn during his school days. He sang with his brothers in the Rogers Brothers Gospel Quartet. While living in Rock Falls, he was music director at the Christian Fellowship Church. In this role he directed many musical productions at his church and in the community of the twin cities of Sterling/Rock Falls. While living in Fulton for the last 17 years he and his wife sang innumerable duets at churches, weddings and funerals.After the loss of his wife, Myrna, he spent most of his non-working hours with his brother, Maurice in Clinton. He will be missed by all who knew him. He lived to sing and worked diligently to survive. He was a friend to all, helpful to the needy and compassionate to those suffering.
