Obituary for James Prestley
JAMES R. "JIM" PRESTLEY, 74, of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at his home in Morrison. Jim was born July 19, 1937, in Morrison, IL, to Raymond Leo and Eva (Aiken) Prestley. He was educated in the Morrison and Albany, IL grade schools and he graduated from Fulton High School, Fulton, IL, in 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. Jim married Patricia Howard on August 28, 1957 in Clinton, IA. He first worked for General Electric in Morrison, and then worked and retired from 3M Company in Cordova, IL. Jim was a Mason, joining the Morrison Dunlap Lodge #321 A.F. & A.M. in 1976. He was Worshipful Master in 1984 and 1993. He was a member of the Valley of Moline Scottish Rite Cathedral; Kabala Temple of Davenport, IA and Clinton Amvets also Clinton Shrine Club, serving as president in 2004. He was involved in the Shrine Wheel Horse Patrol and held the Secretary / Treasurer position for many years. He also served on the City of Morrison Zoning Committee for 2 years. Jim loved yard work and gardening. He enjoyed bird watching and playing golf. He was a family man, treasuring time with his grandchildren and great grandson. Survivors include his wife, Pat; one daughter, Janice (Roy) Thompson of Clinton, IA; one son, James (Cindy) Prestley of Dubuque, IA; two grandchildren, Matthew (Jenny) Thompson and Lindsay Thompson; great grandson, Tayden; two sisters, Karen (Bob) Endress of Morrison, IL and Joanne Hill of Clinton, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Virjean Greeley, Marian Wiersema, Harriett Schroeder; five brothers, Robert, Leroy, Alvin "Red", Arnold, and Vernon "Johnnie" Prestley.
