Obituary for Elmer E. Venema
ELMER E. VENEMA, 87, Fowler Rd., Fulton, IL, died Monday, November 22, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, IA. Elmer was born November 17, 1923, in Garden Plain, IL, to Jacob and Jennie (Nabor) Venema. He was educated in the Garden Plain Grade School of rural Whiteside County an attended Erie High School in Erie, IL. He married Gladys A. (Dykstra) Brondyke on January 4, 1975. Elmer was first employed by the former Cy Breedon / Schickler Lumber Company of Garden Plain, IL. He then engaged in farming in the rural Garden Plain Township area until 1969. He also owned and operated a trucking and corn shelling business. Elmer also worked as a Pioneer Seed Corn Salesman. Most recently he was employed by Agri-King Inc. of Fulton, IL, for over 25 years, retiring in 1999. Elmer was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, IL and served as an elder. He also had served on the board of the former Garden Plain School. Survivors include his wife, Gladys; one daughter, Janet (Dr. George) York of Clinton, IA; one son, William (Kristi) Venema of Clive, IA; two step daughters, Sharon (Ben) Marruffo of Rock Falls, IL and Shirley (John) Wierenga-Huber of Fulton, IL; ten grandchildren, Steve (Cristen) Schipper, Rob (Joan) Huber, Renay (Dan) Byers, Becki (Javier) Plaza-Venema, Amy (Chad) Burford, Kami (Derrin) Huizenga, Bradley (Cristal) Venema, Cory (Angela) Marruffo, Jennifer York, Melissa (Tony) Whitlow; fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one step son-in-law, Ken Wierenga; one sister, Rena Geerts; two brothers, George and Peter Venema.
