Obituary for Sally Mae Hensler
Sally Mae Bradley Goodin Hensler was born November 8, 1913, in Franklin County, Texas, to Reuben Doyle Bradley and Seddie Elvira Goodin Bradley. She passed away in Morrison on August 21, 2010, at the age of 96 years.At the death of her mother Seddie in January 1919, Sally Mae was sent to Fenton, Illinois, to live with Seddie"s brother George Goodin and his wife Hazle Sawyer Goodin. She attended grade school in Fenton, two years of high school in Morrison, and graduated from Erie High School. After graduating from the School of Beauty Culture in Moline, she came to Morrison in March of 1934, working in the Williams Barber and Beauty shop. She was then employed by Helen Rosenow at the Elite Beauty Shop, working there until 1941 and again from 1960 " 1967.She was united in marriage with Donald Beswick Hensler on February 23, 1939. Her daughter Anne was born June 11, 1942, and son Keith on July 18, 1944. Upon Donald"s death in 1973, she moved to Morrison, sharing a home with her husband"s cousin Averil Parker. After Averil"s death, she resided in her condo at 509 Jenkran in Morrison for over twenty years. The last eight years of her life was spent at the Resthave Retirement Home in Morrison.Sally Mae joined the United Brethren Church in Fenton in 1925, serving as a pianist from 1928 to 1933. After moving to Morrison, she joined the Morrison Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school: the beginners, primary, junior high, high school, Endeaver, and adult Bible classes and singing in the choir. In addition, she was an active member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship, acting in church plays, and enjoying Friendly class.She served and chaired countless committees of the church, serving as president of United Methodist Women several times, visiting shut-ins with dear friend Gladys Null, selling tickets for all church events, including the annual Rose Luncheon and various bazaars throughout the year. She was a faithful member of various circles within the church.She also enjoyed membership in P.E.O., Monday Evening Club, Resthave and Morrison Hospital Auxiliaries. Mae loved playing bridge, pinochle, and dominoes.Besides Anne and Keith, Mae is survived by her son-in-law John Frame, daughter-in-law Mary Hensler, five grandchildren, Carrie (Phil) Sykes, Mitchell (Helen) Edlund, David (Kassi) Edlund, Stacy (Robert) Franks, and Matthew (Kelly) Hensler; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Goodin.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Anna Goodin Ferguson and Georgia Goodin Jepson, and brothers Dallas Goodin, Halbrook Goodin, and George Goodin.
