Obituary for Leroy Gollnitz

LEROY GOLLNITZ, 95, of Hooppole, IL, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023.


Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown, IL. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, January 20, 2023, at the funeral home, with pastor Joey Garcea, pastor of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Mineral Cemetery in Mineral, IL. A memorial has been established.


Leroy was born on December 9, 1927, to Louis & Selma Gollnitz in Delmar, IA. Leroy attended a one-room school house until the 8th grade. He went to work for L J Johannsen Trucking for over 30 years. During that time, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Brants. She preceded him in death in January, 2001. Leroy was then employed for Vern’s Farm Systems for 25 years, while also serving on the Hooppole Fire Department where he continued to serve long after his retirement. During his retirement, Leroy managed the Hooppole/Yorktown Township Recycling Center and was the Hooppole Village Park Director for many years. Leroy also assisted and enjoyed helping his son-in-law Kent on his farm with spring planting and farm harvest. Leroy enjoyed tilling gardens and mowing lawns in which he had several customers. Leroy was an animal lover and also fed the wild birds, squirrels and cats.


Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Nancy Brizzolara & Dixie Korch, both of Davenport, IA; Lynnette Blackert, of Prophetstown, IL; Tonya (Mitch) Adams, of Colona, IL; sons, Harold (Connie) Brants, Jr. & Ted (Lisa) Brants of Hooppole, IL. 21 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.


Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; sister, Arlene Evans; daughter, Diane Casey; son, Michael; son-in-law, Kent Blackert; grandson, Wayne Jenkins and niece Kim Dahms.
