SHERI RENÈ STEVENS, 60, of Albany, IL, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023, at her home surrounded by loved ones.
An open house style Celebration of Life will be hosted by her family at Howard’s, 206 S. Main Street in Albany, IL, on Saturday, February 4th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. A memorial has been established.
Sheri was born September 3, 1962, in Clinton, IA, to John and Carolyn (Gray) Stevens. She graduated from Fulton High School in 1980. She was a gifted organ player and could be heard playing at many local churches. Her and her siblings, also musically entertained at Nancy’s Landing/Jay’s Grill.
Sheri so enjoyed music, whether it was playing it on the organ, or piano in her early days or dancing the night away to the Country Eagles or Wiskey River at a local pub or in more recent years serenading friends at the bar with the jukebox playing “Paradise by the Dashboard Lights”. Her daughter has fond memories of furniture being all pushed to one side of the room so her and her longtime friend, Michelle, could practice the newest line dance that they learned.
Sheri also enjoyed crochet for many years until her hands were not able to do it any longer. Many of her family and friends have been blessed with the gift of one of her beautiful dolls or afghans.
Sheri was a paid organist as a first job. She worked at Jay’s Grill and spent 35 years at Tyson-IBP in Hillsdale, IL, working her way up the ladder, ending her career in the camera room. Her friends and co-workers were more than that, they were family and wonderful support system through her many bouts of cancer.
Survivors include two children, Jennifer Rose of Cordova, IL and John Kym Rose of Clinton, IA; her mother, Carolyn Stevens of Kimberly, WI; one brother, Larry (Sheila) Stevens of Waunakee, WI; one sister, Lori Wade of Appleton, WI; one niece, Sarah Wade; three nephews, Joshua Wade, Nathan Stevens and Trevor Stevens; six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Jay Stevens.
