Obituary for Charles A. McGowan
CHARLES A. MCGOWAN, 85, of Fulton, IL, died Sunday, November 28,2021, at Eagle Point Health Care Center in Clinton, IA.
His funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulton with Rev. Father Matthew Camaioni officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Fulton. A memorial has been established to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Charles was born August 19, 1936, in Delmar, IA, to Elmer T. and Clara (Wilming) McGowan. He was educated in the Mt. Carroll Grade School and was a graduate of Mt. Carroll High School. He served in the United States Air Force. He married Jo Ann Rosser on February 7, 1960, at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. Charles was employed at Goodyear, Heritage Motors and McEleney Motors in Clinton, IA. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid golfer. Charles loved to travel with his wife, Jo Ann and enjoyed spending the winters in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann; two daughters, Theresa (Paul) Williams and Sandra (John Lehmkuhl) Vawter both of Clinton, IA; four sons, James (Christine) McGowan of Goldsboro, NC, Mark McGowan of Clinton, IA, Glen McGowan of Indianapolis, IN and Paul McGowan of Greensboro, NC; ten grandchildren, Erica (Matt) Kinkaid, Nicholas (Jennifer) Williams, Conner Williams, Justin (Angela) Vawter, Joshua (Brianna Volesky) Vawter, Jala (Justin) Hayes, Courtney McGowan, Ryan McGowan, Jacob McGowan and Christian McGowan; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Norma) McGowan of Schiller Park, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Susan McGowan; two brothers, Mahlon and William McGowan.
