Obituary for James W. Whitney
James W. Whitney, 81, died Friday, July 23, 2021, at Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton, IA.
His funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, July 30, 2021 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Chaplain Elizabeth Heard, chaplain of Alverno Health Care Facility officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, July 29, 2021 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be at Lusk Memorial Cemetery in Albany, IL. A memorial has been established to Alverno Health Care Facility.
James was born July 6, 1940 in Morrison, IL, to Frederick E. and Esther M. (Eacker) Whitney. He was educated in the Clinton grade schools and was a graduate of Clinton High School. He married Judith A. Lehmkuhl on September 28, 1957 in Clinton, IA. She died on January 25, 1997. He later married Barbara (Andersen) Thomas on February 7, 1999. She died on March 5, 2013. Jim was first employed as an auto mechanic and then was a tool and die maker at Lord Baltimore Press. He was then employed by Electric Service in Clinton as an electrician for many years until retiring in 2002. He was a 50 year member of the IBEW Local No. 145 and was also a former member of the Albany Fire Department. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and traveling around the world in his motorhome. Jim designed and built his home in Albany and was known for his love for “tinkering”.
Survivors include two sons, Mark (Mary) Whitney, Bryan (Karrie) Whitney both of Albany, IL; one step daughter, Penny Dondiego of Clinton, IA; one step son, Brad (Jenny) Thomas of Clinton, IA; five grandchildren, Autumn (Wiley) Blasdell, Jarica (Jeff) Jordan, Taylor (Samantha) Whitney, Paige Whitney, Chloe (Cannon) Lambert; five great grandchildren, Wiley and Dawson Blasdell, Brooklyn and Bryant Whitney, Ella Jordan; seven step grandchildren, Shawn Goodhart, Eric (Shelby) Goodhart, Matt Thomas, Cole Thomas, Abigail Thomas, Austin Dondiego and Vanessa Dondiego; two step great grandchildren, Aiden and Paisley Goodhart; one daughter in law, Missy Whitney of Albany, IL; one sister, Carol Cook of Morgantown, WV; one brother Tom (Sandy) Whitney of Plant City, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Judith and Barbara; three sons, Daniel James Whitney, Robert James Whitney and Randy David Whitney; one step grandson, Lucas Thomas; one sister, Penny; one brother, David Whitney.
