Obituary for Wilma E. Lucas
WILMA E. LUCAS, 97, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at the nursing home.Wilma was born November 14, 1909 in Bloomfield, IA to Carey A. and Elva J. (Mc Coy) Lucas. She was a graduate of Bloomfield High School and a 1932 graduate of Iowa State University in Ames, IA. Wilma was employed as a Home Economics teacher at Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, IA for 4 years. She served as the first Home Advisor for the Whiteside County Home Extension. In 1938, along with Wilma Trundy, she started and operated the Brick House Restaurant in Morrison, IL until retiring in 1975. She enjoyed mentoring young people through the 4-H program and while they worked for her at the restaurant. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morrison, IL and the church"s United Presbyterian Women"s Association and had served as elder and deacon. She was a member of the Morrison Wa-Tan-Ye Club and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Survivors include four nieces, Loraine (Mrs. David) Sewell of San Diego, CA; Neva (Mrs. Andre) Sharon of New York, NY; Beth Cooper of Des Moines, IA; and Susan (Mrs. David) Raymond of Bel Air, MD; two nephews, Donald J. Soults of Vienna, VA and William (Joann) Soults of Washington, DC.She was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Hubbartt and Bernice "Bunny" Soults.
