Obituary for Wesley E. McMillan
Wesley E. McMillan, 94, of Geneseo, IL, formerly of Prophetstown, IL, died Sunday, December 24, 2017, at WoodRidge Supportive Living in Geneseo, IL.

Cremation Rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown with Rev. John Huxtable, grandson of Wes and Pastor of First Christian Church in Virden, IL, officiating. Interment of cremated remains will be at Riverside Cemetery with military funeral honors.

Wes was born October 18, 1923, in Waterloo, IA, to Edgar E. and Fern E. (Blankenfeld) McMillan. He was educated in the Geneseo grade schools and was a 1941 graduate of Geneseo High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. Wes married Cleone “Coke” Burgeson on January 19, 1946, in Geneseo, IL. She died January 17, 2004. Wes was a graduate sheet metal worker and was employed by Johnson Sheet Metal in East Moline, IL. He then owned and operated Home Heating Service in Prophetstown, IL. Wes later worked for the Schebler Company in Davenport, IA. He taught sheet metal apprentices for the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee Local 91. Most recently, Wes served as sexton and secretary for Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown and he also served as Prophetstown Village alderman for the 3rd Precinct. Wes was a 50 year member and past Worshipful Master of the Prophetstown Lodge No.293 AF & AM and a 74 year member of the Prophetstown American Legion Post 522. Wes was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. A memorial has been established by the family.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Charlie) Conner of Milan, IL and Jane (Roger) Nielsen of Dixon, IL; three sons, John (Charlene) McMillan of Hemmet, CA; Jim (Sharen) McMillan of Le Claire, IA; and Jeff (Shana) McMillan of Missoula, MT; a daughter-in-law, Margaret McMillan of Madera, CA; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one half sister, Suzanne McMillan of Burbank, CA; three nieces and one nephew.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cleone; one son, Joe McMillan and one brother, John McMillan and one half sister, Jane Williams.
