Obituary for Waneta Barsema
WANETA BARSEMA, 98, of Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL, died Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Harbor Crest. Waneta was born July 23, 1917, in Fulton, IL, to Albert and Cora (Campbell) Hammond. She was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and was a graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. Waneta first married "Red" Klavenga. She later married Frank Barsema on June 9, 1951, in Clinton, IA. He died December 21, 1961. She then married Joseph Barsema on September 15, 1962, in Fulton, IL. He died August 22, 1965. During the war, Waneta worked at the Proving Grounds in Savanna, IL. She then was employed by Climax Engine Company in Clinton, IA, Fulton Corporation in Fulton, General Electric in Morrison, IL, and Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton. Waneta enjoyed playing bingo, socializing with her friends and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events and special occasions. Survivors include one daughter, Judy (Ernest) Rock of Fulton, IL; two sons Robert (Geraldine) Klavenga of Arizona and James (Paula) Barsema of Fulton, IL; seven grandchildren, Corey and Sabrina Rock, Tim (Joy) Klavenga, Todd (Charlene) Klavenga, Tara (Clint) Ward, Jeremy Barsema, and Nichole Kaiser; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Red Klavenga, Frank Barsema, and Joseph Barsema; one daughter, Trudy Barsema; one sister, Dottie; three brothers, David Hammond, Thomas Hammond, and Alvin Hammond.
