Obituary for Vernon E. Temple
VERNON E. "HAP" TEMPLE, 79, of Escondido, CA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at his home in Escondido. Hap was born September 24, 1926, in Garden Plain Township, IL, to Edward D. and Anna (Ottens) Temple. He attended Garden Plain grade school of rural Whiteside County and Erie High School in Erie, IL. He was a graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Hap was married to Viletta M. Pfundstein for 23 years. He was employed as a delivery truck driver for the Peter Pan Bread Company. Then, he was employed as a General Agent for the Prudential Life Insurance Company and served as steward for Insurance Workers International Union Local #79. Hap was a member and past post commander of the American Legion " Fulton, IL Post #402 and later was member of the American Legion-Escondido, CA Post #149. He also was a member of the VFW Post #8281 " Morrison, IL and later was a member of VFW Post #3795 " San Marco, CA. Hap was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles " Clinton, IA Arie #705, a past member of the Fulton Presbyterian Church " Fulton, IL where he served as a deacon, and presently a member of the First United Methodist Church " Escondido, CA. He had served on the Fulton City Council as a two term Alderman for Ward 2. Hap enjoyed walking, hiking, watching sports, and reading about current events and politics. He also enjoyed the company of family, friends, and visiting with everyone he met. He moved to Escondido, CA in 1989. Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia A. Temple of Fulton, IL; one son, James E. (Lynne) Temple of Ringgold, GA; two grandchildren, Joshua Temple and Michael Temple; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Renkes of Fulton, IL; and his loving and devoted companion, Ruth Athey of Escondido, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
