VERNA P. SNYDER, 95, of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Resthave Home in Morrison.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Abiding Word Church in Sterling, IL, with Rev. Dr. Scott D. Porter, pastor of Abiding Word Church, officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM at Fenton Cemetery in Fenton, IL. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to Morrison Community Daycare Center.
Verna was born July 30, 1929, in Prophetstown, IL, to McKinley and Hazel G. (Lawrence) Pickens. She was educated in several area grade schools and was a graduate of York Community High School in Thomson, IL. On September 16, 1950, she married Marvin J. Snyder at Ideal Church in Carroll County, IL, and they shared their lives together for over 47 years until Marvin’s passing on December 3, 1997. Verna was a dedicated partner in farming with her husband and also worked at General Electric in Morrison, IL. Later in life, she found great fulfillment in caring for children at Morrison Day Care, where she worked for 25 years until her retirement. As a member of the Church of the Open Door in Clinton, IA, Verna actively participated in the Ladies Bible Study and served as a greeter. She cherished her time square dancing with the Morrison Millstreamers, bowling, gardening, and singing with her sisters. Verna’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.
Survivors include three daughters, Polly Klimson of Fulton, IL, Genny (Derek) Knight of Huntley, IL and Jill (Darryl) Everson of Abilene, TX; two sons, James (Dawn) Snyder of Eldridge, IA and Hal (Linda) Snyder of Morrison, IL; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; one grandson, Justin Weimer; two sisters, Lenorah Gordon and Doretta Newendyke; three brothers, Oliver Pickens, Ellis Pickens and William Pickens; one son-in-law, Joe Klimson.
