Obituary for Theresa L. Merema
THERESA L. MEREMA, 87, of Fulton, IL, died Friday, December 30, 2011 at The Alverno Healthcare Facility in Clinton, IA. Theresa was born July 23, 1924 in Fulton, IL, to William J. and Kate (Jansen) Schaver. She attended Whiteside County grade schools and was a 1942 graduate of Fulton High School. Theresa married Robert A. Merema on February 11, 1944 in Fulton, IL. Theresa worked for the Clinton Garment Company until marriage. She was a homemaker while she and Robert were engaged in farming in the rural Fulton area for many years. After her children were grown, she worked part-time for Chipper Family Restaurant in Morrison, IL and devoted her time to driving the Riverbend Senior Citizen bus for 16 years. Theresa was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton where she served as an officer in various women"s organizations and as a Catechism and Sunday School teacher for several years. She was involved in the Creative Crew and sang in the church choir for many years. Theresa enjoyed all types of needlework including sewing, crocheting, and quilting. She enjoyed listening to music, singing, yardwork, walking, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren. She also liked cooking and baking and was known for baking pies for others. Survivors include her husband, Robert; two daughters, Patricia (Lester) Dierks of Preston, IA and Roberta (Dan) Burdsall of Branson, MO; two sons, Kenneth (Denise) Merema of Fulton, IL and Stanley (Lois) Merema of Hollister, MO; thirteen grandchildren, Tammy (Gary) Bormann, Stacy (Tom) Bohle, Tracey (Mike) Regenwether, Angie Dierks, Greg (Julie) Dierks, Mike (Denise) Hester, Mark (Kelly) Hester, Melanie (Lon) Ehler, Terry (Janna) Merema, Valerie (Adam) Murphy, Patrick Houts, Jr., Danielle (Shad) Lindsey, and Michael Burdsall; twenty-two great grandchildren, Jackson Dierks, Marissa & Keaton Bormann, Zachary Bohle, Lane Regenwether, Tim, Ben, Alison & Nathan Hester, Emma & Abby Hester, Lukas, Gavin, & Wyatt Ehler, Joseph, Tiernan, and Brianna Merema, Noah Dean, Ella Murphy, Ashton Shaw, Taylor & Skylar Lindsey; and one sister, Harriet Haan of Lanark, IL.She was preceded in death by her parents; one great granddaughter, Hope Kay Dierks; six sisters, Grace Zaagman, Jennie Bielema, Minnie Houzenga, Anna Tjepkema, Cornelia Dykhuizen, and Pauline Westplate; five brothers, John, Gabriel, Dick, Clarence, and Henry Schaver.
