Obituary for Thelma Dykema
THELMA DYKEMA, 91, of Four Seasons Living Center, Morrison, IL, died Thursday, January 4, 2007 at the Center. Thelma was born June 18, 1915, in Garden Plain, IL, to Louis and Susie (Haan) Renkes. She was educated in local area schools and graduated from Morrison High School in 1932. She married Clayton Dykema on October 3, 1940 in Morrison, IL. Wilma Lucas, the Home Advisor of the newly formed Whiteside County Home Bureau hired Thelma as their first office secretary. She then worked at the Soil Conservation Office. Following her marriage, she worked as a secretary in her husband"s real estate and auction firm, Dykema Realty. She was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church for over 75 years, and had been involved in the choir, taught Sunday school and was a leader in the Girl"s League. She was a co-sponsor of Jr. Christian Endeavor, and a pianist for the Lydian and Women"s Missionary Societies. She was a member of the Morrison Hospital Auxiliary and the Morrison Camera Club. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Duane) Habben of Morrison, IL; Marla (Mrs. Ken) Irion of Dubuque, IA and Ann (Mrs. Steven) Bush of Morrison, IL; six grandchildren, Christopher (Amy) Habben, Corey Habben, Abe Bush, Joshua (Lisa) Bush, Stefanie Glasgow and Luke Bush; six great grandchildren, Brandon and Jordan Bush, Johnny and Liam Glasgow, Maggie and Clayton Habben; one sister, Mrs. Marian Snyder of Morrison, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton; one sister, Florence Brackemeyer; two brothers, Lloyd and Arnold Renkes.
