Obituary for The Rev. Peter J. Surrey
THE REV. PETER J. SURREY, 82, of 610 Portland Ave., Morrison, IL, died Sunday, February 13, 2011 at St. Luke"s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA. Father Surrey was born June 12, 1928, in Timmins, Ontario, Canada, to Herbert R. and Annie M. (Sims) Surrey. He received his Bachelor Of Arts Degree from the University of Toronto; a Bachelor Of Sacred Theology from the University Of Trinity College in Toronto; a Master Of Science Degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. Father Surrey formerly served as the Rector of St. Paul"s Episcopal Church in Savanna, IL and most recently was employed as an instructor at Sauk Valley Community College. Because of his interest in history, biblical archaeology, classical and modern languages and different world religions, Father Surrey traveled extensively in the Middle East, Russia and Canada, attending several conferences at different schools, including Oxford. Survivors include one daughter, Peggy (Dan) Fisher of Clinton, IA; one son, Stephen Surrey of Bettendorf, IA; one granddaughter, Megan Fisher. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thomas Surrey.
