Obituary for Susan Tegeler

Susan Tegeler, 80, of Erie, IL, died Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at her home in Erie.


There will be no visitation; cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a private family memorial service. The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials to Resthave Home and Fenton Methodist Church have been established.


Susan was born February 10, 1944 in Lincoln, IL, to Gilbert Jefferson and Elizabeth Leta (Gill) Plaster. She was educated in the Marquette Heights Grade Schools in Marquette Heights, IL, and was a 1962 graduate of Pekin Community High School in Pekin, IL. On September 19, 1992 she married Richard L. Tegeler in Fenton, IL. Susan managed shopping malls in Texas and Illinois for Simon Corporation, of Indianapolis, IN. She retired as a property and facility manager for U.S. Bank in Davenport, IA. She was a member of the Fenton Methodist Church and served as president of the church’s Administrative Board of Directors. She also served on the Resthave Home Board of Directors, and as President of the United Way of Macomb, IL. Susan was a Rotarian in Sherman, TX. She spent much of her free time volunteering for various organizations. She had a passion for music and was a gifted musician in voice and piano. She LOVED babies, and would take every opportunity to smile and wave.


Survivors include her husband, Richard; one daughter, Kimberly Forner of Waxahachie, TX; one son, John “Jay” Horn, III of Denison, TX; two step-daughters, Sonya (Kary) Keller of Davenport, IA and Shelby (Jeff) Schimmel of Coal Valley, IL; three grandchildren, Josh (Mandie) Forner, Chelsea (Tim) VonHatten and Brittany (Bobby) Anderson; fifteen great grandchildren; Eve, Emily, Ella, Elizabeth and Sam Forner; Chance, Brooks and Macon Harper; Charlie, Elliot and Chandler VonHatten; Trevor and Skylar McCarty; Madison and Harper Anderson; three step-grandchildren, Payton Keller, Conner and Hannah Schimmel; two sisters, Phyllis (David) Bruketta of Canton, IL and Libby Foster of Pekin, IL; one brother, Jeff (Virginia) Plaster of Deerfield, IL.


She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, LaRue Foster.
