Obituary for Stacy Arnett
STACY ARNETT, 93, of 214 W. Riverside Drive in Prophetstown, IL, died Monday, August 17, 2015 at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown. Stacy was born July 25, 1922, in Prophetstown, to Stacy and Anna (Johnson) Arnett Sr. He was educated in the Springhill and Prophetstown Grade Schools and graduated from Erie High School in Erie, IL. He went to Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL and graduated with a degree in general studies; he then attended the University of Illinois. He returned to the family farm to help his father. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. On June 25, 1946 he married Ruth Esslinger in Prophetstown. Stacy farmed for 23 years in the Prophetstown area and then went to work in the Prophetstown Post Office as a clerk, from where he retired. He was a member of the Prophetstown American Legion Post #522 and the Prophetstown Lions Club. Stacy liked to relax by reading and watching TV. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Cubs, and also enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; one daughter, Jean (Mark) Wallingford of Charles City, IA; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nina Nelms and Virginia Smith; one half-sister, Irene Glasser; one brother, Melvin Arnett.
