Obituary for Shirley M. Swanson
SHIRLEY M. SWANSON, 85, of Albany, IL, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, IA. Shirley was born September 7, 1929 in Albany to Clyde E. and Bessie E. (Anglese) Rennecker. She graduated from Erie High School. Shirley married Howard L. Swanson and January 15, 1948 in Fulton. He died April 4, 1991. Shirley worked as secretary at Albany Grade School for 23 years. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Albany, where she was a former member of St. Patrick"s Auxiliary, Eucharistic Minister and was honored as Catholic Women of the year, honoring Women of Inspiration for Sterling Deanery in 2002. Shirley requested no flowers because, "They were given to me when I was alive and could enjoy them." She wanted a memorial to St. Patrick Church to help pave the parking lot; to the Albany Fire Department so "my house will always have a light shining on it", or Masses. Shirley loved to be on the go, she wanted everyone to get along. There wasn"t anything she wouldn"t do for anyone, love and forgiveness were two of the most important things in her life. She collected butterflies and spoiled her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter, Cindy S. (Byron "Barney") Barnhart of Fulton, IL; one son, Ted J. (Sonja) Swanson of Albany, IL; six grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew, and Mitchell Swanson, Bobbi Jo Cox, Jaime (Carl) Zastrow, Lindsay (Charles Arey) Barnhart; a devoted special friend, Dianna Remour. She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Beulah, Evabelle, and Evelyn "Sissy"; one brother, K. W. Rennecker. May the angels lead you into paradise where all suffering and pain are ended and there is great joy, abundant life and peaceful rest in God"s loving presence.
